Eddie Vedder was born on December 23, 1964 with the name Edward Louis
Severson III. He was later adopted and given the name Edward Muller by a lawyer he is not to fond of. After his mother divorced, he took her
maiden name, Vedder. He first lived in Evanston, Illinois, but moved with his family to San Deigo at the age of eight. He was the vocalist of a
small group in San Deigo called Bad Radio who recorded an early version of "Betterman". In 1990, while surfing in San Deigo, a friend of his, Jack
Irons, gave him a demo tape with some songs that Stone Gossard and jeff Ament had written. He wrote lyrics (while surfing, he claims) to the
songs and recorded his lyrics with his vocals and gave the tape back to Jack, who returned it to Stone and Jeff. This is known as the
"mini- opera ("Alive", "Once", and "Footsteps".) This eventually lead to the forming of the band. On June 3, 1994, he married his girlfriend, Beth
Liebling in Rome. She has a band called Hovercraft in which Eddie was drummer for a little while. But he is not anymore, so don't go to concerts just
to see Eddie, because you won't.
Jeff Ament, the bassist for Pearl Jam was born on March 3, 1963. He lived in
Montana until he went away to college to become a basketball star. After college, he moved to Seattle and formed the group Green River with
Mark Arm, Steve Turner, and Stone Gossard. A few years later, the band split up. Mark and Steve went on to form Mudhoney and Jeff and
Stone formed Mother Love Bone with Andrew Wood. The unexpected death of Andrew in 1989 caused the band to break
up, but Jeff and Stone kept on playing together. He was asked to be part of a tribute album to Andrew Wood called Temple of the Dog. Eddie
and Stone were both on this album also. Jeff is not only a great bassist, but also a great artist. He designs most of the bands art (he designed
the famous stick figure).
Stone Gossard was born on July 20, 1966. He was raised on Capitol Hill,
Seattle and has remained in Seattle his entire life. He met Jeff Ament in the mid-'80s, and they formed the band Green River. When this band
broke up, they formed Mother Love Bone. After Andrew Wood died, Stone and Jeff played together trying to find others to form a band. They
contacted Mike McCready and Dave Krusen, the original PJ drummer. They met Eddie Vedder and things took off. Stone has formed a new
record label called Loosegroove. Mostly Seattle bands are signed to this label, including his side project Brad.
Mike McCready was born on April 5, 1965. He grew up in northeast Seattle
listening to Kiss and heavy metal, but as he grew older, his tastes changed. He soon began to listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix
(now we see where he gets his music from). In high school, he formed a band called Shadow. He was asked to join the band after Stone saw him
jamming to a Stevie Ray Vaughan song at a party. They recorded some songs with Matt Cameron filling in as drummer and set out to find a singer
and a drummer. In late 1994, after winning his fight against his alcohol and drug habit in rehab, he contacted some musicians to see if they
wanted to form a band just so they could jam. Among these musicians was Layne Staley, the vocalist for Alice in Chains. This band was called
the Gacy Bunch, but changed their name to Mad Season. They recorded an album, "Above" which did very well. It appears as if the band has split up now.
Mike has formed another side band, Tuatara, with Peter Buck from REM and some members of Screaming Trees.
Jack Irons is the bands fourth drummer. He was asked to be the drummer
before there was even a band, but he was busy with his band, Eleven. He is also responsible for Eddie Vedder joining the group. Jack was the
first drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but he quit the band along with Hillel Slovak before the Chili Pepper's first release because their band,
What is This, got a record contract. A couple of years later, they were back with the Chili Peppers, but after Slovak's unexpected death, Jack
once agin quit. On January 8, 1995, PJ announced that Jack Irons would be their new drummer. Even though his style may not be as explosive
as Dave's, he still fits in perfectly with the rest of the band and is adored by all fans.
